5 Things to Remember this Women's Day

So here arrives that annual day which is dedicated to celebrating our species - WOMEN; Of all ages, shapes and sizes ... from college going teens to 30 somethings to all the way upto grandmothers and great grandmothers.

The United Nations has thematised "Gender Equality" for 2016's Women's Day to promote Women's empowerment and human rights. So while globally agendas are being set, initiatives are being undertaken, there are little things which we can do ourselves that can make a difference in our lives.

1. If you are in your teens/ 20's

Girls ... these are probably the most formative years of your lives. Just as babies who learn to walk, talk, eat and discover new things between birth and age of 3; teenage and 20's (especially early 20's) are years to soak in knowledge, experience and learn new things. This is the time you can invest in yourself, the benefits of which will definitely accrue to you in your future. So learn something new, follow your passion and hobbies, get a job, make a career, find a vocation. Stay away from being lovelorn ... Michelle Obama made the statement of the century last year at an event where she said -

“There is no boy at this age that is cute enough or interesting enough to stop you from getting your education,” she said. “If I had worried about who liked me and who thought I was cute when I was your age, I wouldn’t be married to the president of the United States. You don’t want to look back when you’re 60 and regret that you just didn’t have the patience to push through these four years of mess”

Know that you are a diamond ... the more you polish yourself, the more you will shine

2. Truly empowered women, empower others #dontbeabitchyboss

Haven't we heard horror stories of female bosses?

We women work incredibly hard to make it big and rise to the top and that journey is never easy.
We compromise our personal time and sometimes even our peace of mind to get to that position or secure that dream designation.

But how do we utilise that position of power? Do we slay other women not as powerful or high and mighty as we are? Do we create more challenges for women junior to us out of our own insecurities? Well unfortunately, many women are like that, and we cannot blame MEN for that !!!

Truly empowered women, empower other women and girls too ... Truly empowered women have a loyal kingdom of honest women behind them, truly empowered women are respected by other women and looked upon as examples. Truly empowered women create opportunities for other women and help them in creating better lives for themselves. If the lesser powerful women are waiting for the one in power to fall for some relief in their lives (and not out of jealousy), then what good is such empowerment ??? How good is a situation where people secretly despise you?

3. Stand up for yourself

Though we see a change in times now where women have begun to speak up for themselves, a large section remains deprived of equal rights, equal education and even equal say in household matters. I have been to elaborate weddings where I have witnessed women wearing the most exotic designer wear, flaunting the most expensive diamonds but being treated like doormats by the men of the house.
Don't be a doormat, have an identity, assert yourself where you think you deserve your due ... Remember you will get what you allow.

4. Take care of yourself

Always remember, YOU come first. Yes the only time its probably okay to be secondary is when your children are in the picture or maybe your parents. But thats about it! Do not make it a habit to put yourself on the back burner ... Remember that you will be a good giver of happiness only if you are happy from within, you will be able to spread joy only if you feel that joy from within. Just like one cannot pour from an empty cup, you cannot spread happiness and positivity without feeling the same emotion from within.

So here are simple things that you can do for yourselves:

  • Grooming
    • Women just give up on themselves which is not right. Visit the salon at least once a month. When you look good, you will feel good and when you feel good, the world around you changes
  • Work out
    • Hit the gym, do Yoga, aerobics, dancing, jogging... whatever; anything that suits you. But do try incorporating a workout regime in your life. Research and personal experiences both, have shown that exercises bring positive results.
  • Eat right ... Invest your body with the right nutrients for a good health. Again research shows that eating healthy improves mood, combats diseases, boosts energy, improves longevity and most importantly controls weight :)

5. Spread love, beauty and happiness

And while the agenda of gender equality continues to gain momentum world over, lets not forget to do what we do best i.e. Spread love, happiness and joy. Shower your parents, siblings, children, men, friends with all your love ... after all the luckiest people in the world are the ones who are cared for !!!
Because for once even if we assume that we live in a perfect world, where there are no gender biases and there's perfect equality, the backbone of every family will continue to be a WOMAN

On that note, HAPPY WOMAN'S DAY !!!
