Let’s know more about the healing art of Abhyanga massage for better health & wellbeing

Even though it is only done 2-3 times per week, the benefits of abhyanga massage are numerous. The act of performing this healing massage nourishes the body deeply. It also aids in the improvement of circulation and strength. It also helps to strengthen body tissues and improves sleep. Regular abhyanga practice, according to research, aids in the improvement of sleep patterns. Self-abhyanga should be done every morning or evening after your skin has been prepped with a dry brush.

How to choose abhyanga massage oil?

Although sesame and coconut oils are popular for self-massage, the best oil for this healing ritual is one that is compatible with your dosha. Almond or sesame oil is recommended for vata dosha. If you have a pitta dosha, use a light oil like coconut or ghee. For kapha type dosha, almond oil is beneficial.

As a beginner, here are some basic abhyanga massage steps to keep in mind. To reap the full benefits of this art, devote at least 15 minutes of your time to it and be patient.

Wrap a towel around your body and stand in a comfortable position. In fact, you can set aside one towel for this activity because it may accumulate oil over time.

Using a dry brush, remove any dead skin cells from your body and get ready for a massage!

Put half cup oil in a glass bottle.

Heat the bottle of oil in a double boiler until it is warm.

Apply the oil liberally to your entire body, beginning at the lower limbs and working your way to the centre of your body. Do take care to use long strokes on the limbs and circular strokes on the joints like knees and elbows. In addition, massage the abdomen and chest in circular motions in clockwise direction.

Next, apply little warm oil to the scalp in gentle circular motions.

Finally, wipe your feet clean to remove any remaining oil and reduce the risk of slipping and falling.

Wash off the oil under a warm shower.

If time permits, scrub your body with a natural homemade scrub for added TLC.
