Easy DIY Natural Hair Cleansers

So much is being written about the "No Poo" method. Haven't heard about it? Fashion Tourist tells you a bit more :D. The method involves washing hair with mild and natural ingredients, replacing commercial shampoo that strips hair of natural oils. As per personal choice, women all over the world have completely given up shampoo or have replaced the shampoo-conditioner routine with easy DIY natural hair cleansers.

With so many artificial self-care and beauty products available in the market, don’t we always wish if we could just groom ourselves with natural ingredients? In the daily hustle-bustle, we try and pass through the day with ready made, preserved, frozen food. Does it have to be the case with the beauty products that we use too? Well, as far as your precious hair are concerned, the answer can be—No!

Fashion Tourist lists some easy DIY natural hair cleansers that will help you take one more step towards healthy hair.

Triphala
Many of us have may have heard about it as an oral health drug as it is a very rich source of Vitamin C, few of us would know about its benefits as a hair cleanser for:
-Getting Rid of Dandruff
-Controlling loss of hair
-Source of nourishment

Method of use:
Make a paste of triphala powder with water or rose water. Apply the paste by making sections of hair from root to shaft just like how you would apply henna. Leave as a pack on the hair for ½ to 1 hour and rinse with lukewarm water. Towel dry hair and repeat at least twice a week for best results.

Aloe Vera + Honey + Amla + Glycerine:

This highly recommended hair cleansing method also doubles up as a treatment for frizzy, dull, and thin/less hair problems. The ingredients sooth the cuticles of the hair. As a bonus, this cleansing method also reduces split ends.

Method of use:
Take-
2 tbsp of aloe vera gel
1 tbsp of honey
1 tbsp of amla juice
1 tbsp of glycerine
Optional: Few drops of essential oils like lavender or tea tree

Mix all the ingredients and apply slowly on the hair roots. Slide your fingers over small sections of hair after apply the mix on the shaft. Leave the mix on for half hour and rinse the hair with lukewarm water and towel dry hair.

Post this treatment, you will experience baby soft, more manageable and slightly straight hair.

Amla + Shikakai + Reetha + Bhringraj:

This cleanser is no less than an elixir for the hair as it takes care of most of the problems associated with hair. This is an age old natural hair-cleansing method used since hundreds of years in India.

Some benefits of using this hair cleanser includes:
Fights hair fall
Nourishes roots and makes hair strong
Fights early greying of the hair

Method of use:
Mix all four ingredients (instead of getting dried nuts you can easily get organic powders in the market) in equal ratio depending on your hair length to make a paste with water and apply just as you would apply henna. Leave the paste on hair for an hour. Rinse with lukewarm water.

You may find some particles of the paste on our hair even after rinsing and towel drying the hair—do not worry as these particles will fall off when you comb the hair after they are completely dry. Use this treatment to wash hair twice a week.

Reetha:

Also known as the soapnut, reetha can be used as a regular hair cleanser by itself. It is best suited for people who do not have time for making elaborate cleansing packs. It provides many benefits including improving the hair texture and making hair strong. Over and above the many advantages that it provides, it is an easily available and affordable herb.

Method of use:
De-seed an appropriate quantity (depending on your hair length) of Reetha nuts and soak them overnight or at least for 8 hours. Blend these soaked nuts in a blender, strain and apply as a paste on hair. You can make the paste by mixing blended Reetha with rose water or aloe vera gel. If you have extra dry hair, Reetha paste can dry your hair. In such case, you can add some lavender, rosemary, and chamomile oil to the paste. Apply this all over and leave for 30-40 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and dry your hair. You may cleanse your hair twice a week like this.

Eggs:

It’s a common fact that egg is good for hair. Instead of just using an egg for hair, you can follow a cleansing cum treatment for life-less, dull and dead hair.
Method of use:
Beat one large egg and add to it:

1 tbsp aloe Vera gel
3-4 drops peppermint oil
1/2 tbsp of lemon juice
1 tsp lime peel powder
1 tsp orange peel powder
1 tsp honey1 tbsp Amla juice

Yes... this one calls for a little hard work but the results it will give after continuous use for at least 3 months will be shockingly good! Mix everything together to make a slightly runny pack. Apply on hair and leave it on for 30 minutes with the head covered with a shower cap. After 30 minutes, rinse with lukewarm water. Repeat 1-2 times a week for best results. Although, your hair won’t smell of egg due to the many ingredients that go in the cleanser, however, if you feel there is still some smell of the egg, you can make the last rinse with a mug of water with 20 ml of lemon juice or vinegar added to the water.

Using these alternate natural shampoos will give your hair the life that they deserve and which they are lacking of due to the air pollution, use of chemicals or heat. Just a little effort will go a long way in keeping your hair healthy!
