Lemons: Beauty Benefits For Skin, Hair & Easy Home Remedies

Lemon is a household superstar. Apart from being an active cooking ingredient, lemons have strong properties in the health and beauty department too. Their properties work as natural skin lighteners and active disinfectants for hair and skin. In addition, drinking lemon juice for skin is a good idea too!

So lets unfold some quick fixes this fruit has to offer:

1. Works as an amazing Exfoliator

Skin tends to develop layers of dead skin cells upon itself. This condition leads to blockage of pores. Result is that the skin doesn't breathe and dirt and grime continue to remain embedded in the skin cells. Proper exfoliation becomes extremely important to combat such a situation.

Mix some lemon juice and 1 spoon of sugar and rub it gently on your face. This will help get rid of dead cells and bring new skin on the surface. You can also scrub your lips with this mix when they get chapped. Lipsticks look and feel amazing when applied on smooth lips. Do a small patch test to ensure you do not face any disadvantages of applying lemon juice on face. For some more easy DIY sugar scrub ideas, click here

Dab some lemon juice on any spots on your face you think you may be getting as a result of age or otherwise. Lemon is an excellent lightening agent and will therefore help in fading the marks away. Follow this process twice daily for 2 weeks and hopefully you should see some difference. In addition, you can also try applying lime on face to fade acne spots. Though how long it takes lemon to lighten skin depends on various factors.

3. Helps Fight Signs of Ageing

Lemon helps in smoothing out some signs of ageing too. Boil 1 cup milk, 2 teaspoons lemon juice and 1 teaspoon brandy. Cool the mixture to room temperature and apply. Allow it to dry and wash it off. Overuse of lemons for skin may cause some sensitivity. Therefore, repeat this process once a week and not more. If you want to know some more effective treatments for ageing, read this

4. Hair Care

If you are facing issues with dandruff, do a daily scalp massage using 2 tablespoons of lemon and rinse off. Repeat this daily until your dandruff disappears. Lemon's acidity helps balance the pH of your scalp, which helps keeps away.

5. Acts as a Moisturizer

Mix juice from 1 lemon with 2 teaspoons of olive oil and apply on the face. Olive Oil is a great source of Vitamin A and Vitamin E. It also repairs skin from damages caused by dirt and pollution. Applying lemon with olive oil will help in smoothing dry skin.

6. Home Manicure / Pedicure

If going to a salon is not an option for some reason, soak your hands and feet in lukewarm water mixed with lemon juice for 5 minutes. Follow this process with rubbing inside of the lemon peel against nails. This will help in cleaning and brightening your hands and feet.

7. Lemon makes a fabulous cleanser

Extend the benefits of lemon by making a homemade cleanser. Combine lemon with a small bowl of yogurt. You can add a pinch of turmeric powder with a spoon of rose water and scrub your skin. This will not only help remove bacteria and dirt but will also help soften skin.

So yes, those are all the quickie benefits, a lemon can bring to you in the comforts of your own home. However do keep in mind that lemons can cause skin to become overtly sensitive to sunlight. Hence exposure in the sun immediately after a lemon treatment must be avoided.
